The Sierra Leone International Ship Registry strictly follows the Merchant Shipping Act 2003 and together with the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration promotes and develops legislation with aim to have quality standards in all Sierra Leone Flagged vessels trading internationally in relations to protecting seafarers, preventing pollution and promoting maritime safety. The Merchant Shipping Act 2003 provides the necessary requirements for SLISR to offer all types of registration of vessels including Yacht, Bareboat Charter In and Out, Special Registration, New Building; also the registration of mortgages and the issuance of Certificates of Endorsement, Dispensation of COE, and Exemption among other services.
SLISR has also developed pro-active measures to reduce the detention ratio by following guidance from IMO and MOUs, which has resulted beneficial in the last two years consolidating the goal of putting the Sierra Leone Flag at the vanguard of the maritime world.
